In his speech, Ambassador Osorio drew attention to the need to identify more appropriate policies and best practices to acquire the tools to force the benefits of science, technology, innovation and culture in order to create jobs, end poverty, reduce inequality and address the many challenges of sustainable development. »

New York, April 22, 2013. Ambassador Néstor Osorio, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN and President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) together with: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon; Gunilla Carlsson, Minister for International Development Cooperation of Sweden; and Deputy Secretary-General Jan Eliasson, cutting the ribbon at the inauguration of the newly renovated Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Chamber. The renovation was carried out with the support of Sweden.

Ambassador Osorio presided the Special high-level meeting of the ECOSOC with Bretton Woods institutions

On April 22, Ambassador Nestor Osorio, in his capacity as Chairman of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), presided at the UN headquarters, the Special High-level Meeting of ECOSOC with the Bretton-Woods institutions, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. This meeting isheld annually, and the central topic was "Coherence, coordination and cooperation in the context of sustainable development financing and development agenda post-2015." »

In a diplomatic note the UN Secretary General, H.E. Mr. Ban Ki-moon, thanks Ambassador Néstor Osorio, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the Organization, for having given to him a copy of the book "Colombia in the Security Council of the United Nations 2011-2012", which was presented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the diplomatic and academic community in Colombia. »

On April 15, Ambassador Néstor Osorio, President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), was one of the high-level speakers in the thematic debate on Global Economic Governance, convened by the President of the United Nations General Assembly. The debate was attended by Mr. Jose Manuel Barrosohe, President of the European Commission, Mrs. Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Mr. Ali Babacan, Prime Minister of Turkey, the ministers of Chile, Bangladesh and Norway, and representatives of international financial institutions. »

Ambassador of Colombia to the UN and President of ECOSOC attended Private audience with Pope Francisco

Ambassador Néstor Osorio, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN and President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), was received in private audience by His Holiness Pope Francisco. At the audience they discussed issues that constitute the ECOSOC agenda, in particular the Millennium Development Goals and the preparation of post 2015. The reduction of poverty and hunger, gender equality, combating inequalities, are issues that coincide with the concerns of the Holy Father. »
