Ambassador Osorio held a meeting with Ms. Ertharin Cousin, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP)

During the meeting Ambassador Osorio stated that food security is at the center of ECOSOC's work. He also mentioned the joint Meeting of the Council and the Economic and Financial Committee of the General Assembly on "Food security and nutrition", held in New York on 14 February 2013. He stated that the ECOSOC meeting in July will also address this issue and underlined the need for more substantive debate and concrete recommendations for governments on this theme. On her side, Ms. Cousin highlighted the current challenges faced by the WFP in rising funds and expressed concern about mounting conversations in New York around the possibility of including food security as part of an overarching poverty eradication goal.

Ambassador Osorio stated that he will promote WFP's cause and will organize the Partnership Forum in preparation for the 2013 ECOSOC Annual Ministerial Review, which will also see the participation of philanthropic organizations and the private sector.
