Ambassador of Colombia to the UN and President of ECOSOC attended Private audience with Pope Francisco

Ambassador Néstor Osorio, Permanent Representative of Colombia to the UN and President of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), was received in private audience by His Holiness Pope Francisco. At the audience they discussed issues that constitute the ECOSOC agenda, in particular the Millennium Development Goals and the preparation of post 2015. The reduction of poverty and hunger, gender equality, combating inequalities, are issues that coincide with the concerns of the Holy Father.

Francis Pope recalled the importance of the preservation of water sources and how to work in the conservation of the environment in a sustainable manner. For his part, Ambassador Osorio stressed the importance of political commitment, and UN level for further progress in improving the living conditions of humanity, and likewise protects the planet from the threats that have its conservation.

Youth employment and promotion were other topics that the Holy Pontiff attaches particular importance, such as the need to facilitate meetings of all social and political to project, promote and create environments reconciliation, peace and coexistence. In this sense, he expressed his pleasure for the firm and successful advancement of the peace process in Colombia.

At the end of the audience, Ambassador Osorio asked Pope spiritual guidance in this important endeavor and political responsibility, and also offered the platform which is the ECOSOC to work with a view to the worthy development of human beings.
