Official presentation of the Guidance Note of the Secretary General: "Reparations for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence"

Ambassador Maria Emma Mejia and Head Director of the Unit for Attention and Reparation of Victims of Colombia, Paula Gaviria Betancur, participated as panelists at the official presentation of the Guidance Note of the Secretary General: "Reparations for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence". The event featured remarks by Executive Director of UN Women, Ms. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict, Ms. Zainab Bangura, Deputy Secretary General Mr. Jan Eliasson, and Assistant Secretary-General for Human Rights, Mr. Ivan Simonovic.

The guide is the latest in a series of documents published by the Secretary-General addressed to the entire United Nation's system. The aim of the note is to draw guidelines for the assistance provided by the United Nations to Member States on specific issues. The guide was prepared jointly by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and UN-Women, including further input and comments from 20 entities that are part of the Rule of Law Coordination and Resource Group. During the launch of the Guidance Note, Colombia's experience in this field was presented by the Head Director of the Unit for Attention and Reparation of Victims.

The launch of the Guide is part of the "Series of Dialogues with Member States on Rule of Law at International Level" and seeks to provide a platform for Member States to share and exchange their experiences in the field.
