REGIONAL BRIEFING ON THE MEDIUM TERM
STRATEGIC PLAN OF UNICEF

Latin American and Caribbean Group

Objectives
The meeting will focus on the regional dimension of the Medium Term Strategic Plan of UNICEF. An effort will be made to review each of the organizational priorities; analize their relative importance in the regional context, as well as examine their linkages and how they can mutually reinforce each other in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Outcome
The main conclusions of the meeting will be presented to the Executive Board at the Second Regular Session in December.

Methodology
After an overview of the Plan by UNICEF, the participants will break into small groups and focus on one or two organizational priorities. The conclusions of the various groups will then be presented and discussed in plenary. the meeting is expected to last one day.

Suggested Country Participants
Ideally, participants representing Board Members or Observers should hold senior positions in a coordinating Ministry, and be thoroughly familiar with the whole range of UNICEF work.

Date and Venue
8 November 2001 in Cartagena, Colombia. Logistical information will be provided in due course.

UNICEF'S team
The UNICEF team will include the Deputy Executive Director for Programme and Strategic Planning, the Secretary of the Executive Board; and the Chief of the Planning Unit.
