Dear Political Coordinators,
Some comments on our work for tomorrow December 10.
1.- Protection of civilians. I wanted to draw your attention to two issues on
this debate:One, the Special Assistant of the SG, Ms. Elizabeth Lindenmayer, has confirmed to us the participation of the Secretary General in the debate. Mr. Oshima from OCHA will respond to questions from participants. According to Ms. Lindenmayer, Mr. Viera de Mello, High Commissioner for Human Rights, will not participate in the debate.
Two, in accordance with today's decision during consultation, we have invited the Director General of the ICRC to participate in the debate. It is the intention of the Presidency to give him the floor immediately after the Secretary General.
2.- Burundi We have been informed from the Office of SRSG Dinka that he is prepared to come to brief the Council next Thursday 12 December in the afternoon.
3.- Somalia We will find an appropriate time to take action on the Presidential Statement on Somalia in consultation with Norway.
4.- Lunch with the SG Another reminder of the issues for the SG's lunch: Iraq, Middle East, Cote D'Ivoire, DRC and Burundi.
