Dear Political Coordinators,
Today was also a busy day. Not to worry. Tomorrow will be more or less the same.
Our business for Friday December 13 in the morning looks as follows:
1. Afghanistan This is the regular briefing on Afghanistan. I understand Mr. Annabi from DPKO will present the update, and then we will go into consultations for a brief discussion.
2. Liberia Earlier today, the Mexican delegation informed the Council that the draft PRST on Liberia is ready for adoption. We will take this during the morning session in consultations with a view to a formal meeting.
3. ICTR During consultations today, we circulated the draft resolution which includes the recommendation of the Security Council to the General Assembly on the election of permanent judges for the International Tribunal on Rwanda. The text has been put into blue for adoption tomorrow.
4. Timor L'Este As I expressed to you some days ago, the Secretariat will provide an update on the situation under "other matters".
Our business for Friday December 13 in the afternoon looks as follows:
1. Democratic Republic of Congo This is an update of the situation that will be presented by Mr. Guéhenno of DPKO. We understand France will circulate a draft resolution related to the expert panel report on the illegal exploitation of natural resources in the eastern DRC that will be discussed at the expert level early next week.
2. Burundi After we finish our business with DRC, we hope to adopt the Presidential Statement presented by France in today's consultations.
Some additional aspects for our business next week:
1. Angola/UNAMA The Secretariat has informed us that the UNMA report (S/2002/1353) will be out tomorrow, Friday December 13. Since we have assurance of a report, we will follow our original plan and schedule an open briefing followed by consultations in the afternoon of Monday December 16.
2. Iraq and Kuwait (Par 14 Resolution 1284 of 1999) Ambassador Voronsov will introduce the report on Wednesday December 18 in the morning following the Chairmen final reports (this meeting should not be longer than an hour or so), instead of Friday December 19 as originally scheduled. This will allow us to consider the briefing from Dr. Blix.
3. UNMOVIC We have scheduled a briefing by Dr. Blix for December 19 in the morning. Dr. ElBaradei will also participate in this session.Have a good rest of the afternoon.
